up for sale is purple smoke tree, Cotinus coggygria. 50 seeds. purple smoke tree holds true to its name, this beautiful small tree boasts blooms that are wispy large clumps of many millions of purple filaments that resemble puffs of smoke. when in full bloom it looks like a big purple cloud. this easy to grow plant is a good choice for a shrub boarder or specimen tree. it can either flourish as a multi stemmed shrub, or it can be pruned to a single trunk tree. it can be cut back every year to maintain the desired size and shape you like. purple smoke tree is a deciduous shrub or small tree that emerges in spring a rich maroon red and darkens to dark purple by late summer. in summer, airy puffs of purple hairs surround the flowers and elongate to become clothed with fuzzy hairs that last a month or more. it's quite a showstopper. the seeds will need cold treatment for a few months before planting. plant them outdoors in late summer to early winter for spring sprouting or put them in the fridge for 2-3 months before planting. perennial. zone 5-8.
