Description

This Vito/Leblanc (Bougnier) alto saxophone is a professional quality instrument. It is made in France. I couldn't find a serial number chart, but based on its construction, I think it is from late ‘40’s to early ‘50’s. Maybe the mid thirties. It's serial number is "1854 A". Vito is a Leblanc brand. Leblanc had the French manufacturer, Bougnier, make saxophones for them under the names of Leblanc, Vito, and Noblet. They were very good instruments. This instrument plays as-is, and it comes with a Buffet case which can also be used as-is. There are lots of photos. If you’re a serious musician, this is a good fixer upper that you could do piecemeal or all at once. If you’re a beginner, this will get you started and, if you continue to play, you can replace pads at that point. Note that this listing is for the sax and case only. Instrument’s Condition: It plays as-is. All but four pads are old. I went over the horn and seated the pads to see how it would play. I like the tone, feel, and general playability. It has a lovely tone and even scale. The notes below D are a little difficult, but playable. The new pads are both octave keys, and low D# & C#. If you are a serious musician and like the horn, it’s worth a repad job. (I was going to repad it and use it in a French waltz cafe band, but the group broke up.) The finish is worn, but not pitted or corroded. The mechanism works well and isn’t rusted anywhere. The neck has a “bend”, but plays well. It fits on the horn well, as the ends are round without deformity. The case is a professional Buffet case from the ‘60’s. It’s useable as-is, but could use some “sprucing up” for long term use.
