Description
This is an offering for wild harvested Alaska Lupine Seed. Lupine is a very easy to grow perennial ornamental flower native to most of North America. This seed should be regarded as mixed variety as it has been wild harvested in South Central Alaska and most Lupine found here are perennial hybrids. It will self seed once established. Can become a little invasive if left to its own devices. Plants prefer a moist soil but it can also tolerate drought. Can grow in poor soil as they are a nitrogen fixer. Also can be used as a cover crop. Seeds are regarded as edible by some but do require soaking and cooking as most uncooked legumes are toxic to some degree. Raw Lupine seeds are highly toxic. Lupines grow well in poor soil where other plants will not survive. They are a great crop for extracting phosphates from the soil as their root systems form symbiotic relations with phosphate extracting fungi. The plants can then be used as a green manure or part of a compost tea. This offering is for 50 seeds. Seeds tend to have low viability and need scaring and cold stratification to germinate.
