Description
Lindheimer's Morning Glory (Ipomoea lindheimeri) is a native species from Texas and surrounding environs. This species was a short-lived perennial and survived two full seasons for me in the great state of Delaware. The flowers are medium size, lavender limb which gradates into a yellowish tube. This species is an evening bloomer, opening later in the afternoon and remains open all night into the following morning. Note the long tube in lateral views of the flower in the attached photos - the flowers are mildly fragrant and most likely are pollinated by moths. The fragrance is that of exotic spices. The species makes a small storage root or tuber. The leaves are deeply lobed and are the main attraction while waiting for the flowers to develop. Why not try growing something different this year?
