Eriodictyon crassifolium is a perennial shrub in the Boraginaceae family. It is native and endemic to California. The common name is thickleaf yerba santa. It can grow to 10 feet tall but usually around 3-5 feet tall. The leaves are covered in hairs on the underside of the leaves, while the top is dark green and serrated. The inflorescence is a cluster of lavender bell-shaped flowers also covered in hairs. It grows on slopes, in ditches, burned areas that have been disturbed. It is deer resistant but visited by birds, bees, and butterflies. It prefers to grow in full sun and is drought tolerant. Zones 6-10 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds and lightly cover with a medium. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic but maintain a temperature around 65-75F.
