Elegant Blazingstar Liatris Elegans 25 Seeds Chill Hill Farms This Florida Native flower is a show stopper! Gorgeous stems just covered in tiny white flowers bloom in the panhandle from August - September. There are a couple species of Liatris growing on our main farm. The purple Chapman's Blazingstar & Bluffs Gayfeather just pop up everywhere in the natural areas. When we stopped by one of our smaller farms, we were amazed to find this White Liatris species growing in a few bunches. We have never seen these before! We looked all over and cannot find these growing anywhere else, just this one mini-farm. The Elegant Blazingstar kicks off the Liatris blooming season. On the day the flowers are 'spent', the Chapman's Blazingstar takes over. Once the Chapman's flowers are done, the Bluffs Gayfeather is in full bloom. The many bees and Gulf Fritillary butterflies just move from patch to patch and have a ball! A few rhyzomes were pulled from the 'mini-farm' and planted at the main farm. We didn't know how well it would transplant, so we only did a few. We are happy to report the plants look better than ever before! The plants are about 3 feet tall and just covered in buds. We cannot wait to watch these beautiful flowers bloom! Elegant Blazingstar grows in full sun or partial shade. It grows in the dry, sandy soil of NW Florida with no added nutrients. Once seeds are established, the 'roots' of the plant grow into a quarter size round rhizome. The rhizome makes it drought tolerant and allows it to sprout back year after year. Elegant Blazingstar grows well in zones 3-9.
