Description
Conn saxophones were among the finest quality horns made in the early/mid 20th century. This 1926 soprano saxophone was manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana and is in remarkable condition considering its age. This model, produced from 1924-1930, was called New Wonder Virtuoso Deluxe, and the model number (184,904) tells us that the horn was made in 1926. The original finish maintains its luster with fancy design around the front and back of the bell. The original pads were white leather; nearly half of the pads have been replaced with the modern orange leather. The horn plays easily and nicely with strong spring action. It rests in its original wooden case, covered in black with a black leather handle. The bed is green velvet with natural fading and stains, but no tears. This sax holds well, with a fully encircled thumb rest. The mouthpiece that came with the horn leaves something to be desired. The buyer here will want to apply a mouthpiece that satisfactorily connects the person to the instrument. In other words, BYOM. I played it with my own mouthpiece and it played well.
