Alyssum is a spreading plant, keep 6-8 inches apart for best results. How to Care for Alyssum Alyssum is a low-maintenance plant. Water sparingly but deeply. Alyssum roots do best when allowed to dry out a bit between waterings, particularly in a partial shade environment. Consistently damp or soggy soil will make the plant prone to root rot.
